Future of Media 08 summit wrap

I headed down to Sydney yesterday for the Future of Media Summit 2008 hosted by Ross Dawson and his Future Exploration Network. Firstly, congratulations to Ross and his hard-working team for putting on such a professional and informative event. It went off without a a hitch and everyone was extremely accommodating.

Officially the #FOM08 event was held in two parts: the conference session with live simulcast between Sydney and Silicon Valley, and the "Unconference" sessions allowing for debate and open forum conversation on various topics.

However, like last month's PubCamp events in Sydney and Melbourne, there was a third aspect to the event that only half the attendees were aware of - the Twitter back channel and live commentary being conducted by many of the audience. For me, this was at least as informative and stimulating as the conference itself.

Online social networking reaches mothers at home with their kids

WEBSITES and advertisers targeting the parent market are embracing the latest online trend of social networking to further expand their reach.

Last week, one of the leading sites, Kidspot.com.au, had a soft launch of extensions to its site that aim to turn it into a social networking forum for mothers.

Children's product giant Huggies has also invested heavily in its own social networking and information portal, the Huggies Club.

PubCamp 08 - Sydney

Yesterday Gordon Whitehead and I trekked to Sydney to attend PubCamp 08 - The Web 2.0 Media Day. We took video and mic in hand to capture some of the presentations and random comments at what was a fascinating event.

So far our workload has prevented us from getting to the video but we will be posting soon...stayed tuned.

Web 2.0 and social media is all about links. Linking people. Linking information. Linking ideas.

I recently updated my URL to mediahunter.com.au from my original typepad address. This could cause havoc with my various rankings but in the long term will be a better address for this site.

If you currently have Media Hunter linked from your site I greatly would appreciate if you could update the URL. If you haven't linked Media Hunter then I would equally appreciate the new "link-love".

OK....it was us

A few weeks ago The Marketer and I
posted about an interesting job advertisement
that was doing the rounds. It probably wasn't
hard for many readers to work out that it was for my Newcastle advertising agency, Sticky.

The campaign to attract a new web designer is a great example of the direction we are taking Sticky. Employ totally different thinking to traditional advertising challenges.

And didn't it work a treat?!

The Social Media Adoption Process

New social media trends are numerous. Some shine brightly and have a lasting effect on the new media landscape, while others burn out quickly.

My compatriot Gordon Whitehead over at The Marketer has just posted a wonderful insight into this phenomenon and the stages they go through titled The Social Media Adoption Process. Its good reading.

Top 50 Australian Marketing Pioneer Blogs

It had to happen, and thanks to Julian Cole it finally has. A comprehensive Australian ranking list of marketing blogs.

Julian decided to make this list in order to shed light on the Australian Marketing Blogosphere and hopefully connect you with some great Australian Marketing thinkers.

The ranking system is very similar to the AdAge Power 150 methodology. Julian used the same variable to rank the blogs (Google Page Ranks (10), Technorati Authority (10), Technoati Blog Reactions (10), Alexa Page Ranking (10), Bloglines (10).

He also added a Pioneer score (10), this is a subjective score which is scored in terms of the blogs ability to have pioneering thoughts about Marketing. Julian believes it is our role as Marketing bloggers to discover and inform the rest of the industry about the changing Marketing landscape.
